Japanese are amateurs.
In Australia
the outback is one giant
ikebana arrangement.

If austerity
alone inspired such beauty,
Aborigines
would have dreamed ikebana
long before the Japanese.

The Daylight Fox

Taking the Shot

Aiming at the fox
down the barrel of my lens,
I grieved it was not
down the barrel of my gun.
Still, I shot it on the run.

Taking the Blame

If with my rifle
I had gone out rather than
with my camera
the fox I saw would be harmless
and the ewe would not be lambless.
