America’s Democrats, so we are being told by the country’s reliably unreliable legacy media, are near delirious at Joe Biden being replaced atop the presidential ticket by Kamala Harris. The polls have yet to confirm such a wave of enthusiasm, but there is little doubt the Nine rags are gung-ho for the woman who may or may not have a better chance of foiling Donald Trump than the vestigal presence who will tonight (Thursday 10am AEST) address the nation about his decision to bail.

Indeed, such is the enthusiasm of The Age and Silly Morning Herald, that Ms Harris’ high praise for her own record and competence gets a near-verbatim cut-and-paste showcasing.

Harris on Monday: As a young prosecutor, when I was in the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office in California, I specialized in cases involving sexual abuse. Donald Trump was found liable by a jury for committing sexual abuse.

The Age/SMH: As a young prosecutor in Alameda County near her home city of Oakland, California, Harris explained, she specialised in tackling sexual abuse crimes. Trump, as history shows, had been found liable for the sexual abuse of New York writer E. Jean Carroll.Harris on Monday: As attorney general of California, I took on one of our country’s largest for-profit colleges and put it out of business. Donald Trump ran a for-profit college, Trump University, that was forced to pay $25 million to the students it scammed.

The Age/SMH: As an attorney-general in California, Harris took on one of America’s largest for-profit colleges and put it out of business. Trump, on the other hand, ran a for-profit college known as Trump University, which was forced to pay millions to the students it scammed.Harris on Monday: During the foreclosure crisis, I took on the big Wall Street banks and won $20 billion for California families — (applause) — holding those banks accountable for fraud. Donald Trump was just found guilty of 34 counts of fraud.

The Age/SMH: Harris, during the foreclosure crisis in the late 2000s, held banks accountable for fraud. Trump, meanwhile, was recently found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records to cover up a sex scandal involving a porn star.

All presidential and vice-presidential speeches are available on the White House website, which might be worth bookmarking. After all, why not consult the original rather than a Nine rewrite?
