Richard Castles: ‘2023’

My eyes want to close
My heart wants a rest
My lungs pack away
Lock up my chest
My brain shut it down
My feet wrap in gauze
My ears plug them up
My hands in the drawers
Fold up my joints
Switch off my drive
Line up my limbs
I’m too much alive
Shave off my hair
Peel back my skin
Snuff out the candle
The last light within.
