Pullus Cosmologica
Which came first, the chicken or the road?
—Anon Chook
Shakespeare Chook:
To cross or not to cross
that is the question …
Frost Chook:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I crossed the one less crossed by,
And that has made all the difference.
Descartes Chook:
I cross therefore I am.
Poe Chook:
On this road by horror haunted
Tell me truly I implore
Crossed the Chicken never more.
Kerouac Chook Book:
Cross the Road.
Whitman Chook:
Afoot and light-hearted I cross the open road,
Henceforth I ask not good-fortune,
I myself am good-fortune,
Henceforth I cluck no more …
Plath Chook:
You do not do you do not do
anymore black road over which have I cock-a-doodled do . . .
Lawson Chook:
But not until a city feels red rooster’s feet
Shall its sad people miss awhile the terrors of the street,
The dreadful everlasting stride scarcely feathers and meat …
Emerson Chook:
Do not cross at the crossing rail,
cross instead where there is no road and leave a trail.
Teddy Roosevelt Chook:
Cross softly and carry a big beak.
JFK Chook:
So ask not what your road can do for you,
Ask what you can do for your road.
Clinton Chook:
I did not have sex with that road.
Whitlam Chook:
Ladies and gentlemen, well may we say “God cross the Road” …

For a culture not to change over time would be a reproach and certainly not a cause for celebration, for it would indicate that there had been no capacity to adapt. Clearly this has not been the case
