Kite surfers aloft at Cronulla
Kite surfers aloft at Cronulla
You gaze up from The Esplanade at a spectacle
wilder than any carnival ride,
the wonder of kite surfers rushing
by at breakneck speed, escaping skyward
from their worries and Ozone Street lassitude.
They rise over the whale’s road without ennui
in the thrill of the moment,
eavesdropping on those echoes from the deep,
the breaching spume of a humpback
appearing in the distance like a white plume.
Call it a mystical ride high above the waves
on the cosmic geometry of joy,
one derived without calculus,
the energy multiplied by the rate of ascent
and moving along the curve as if possessed.
