Ectoplasm
She never liked it at all-
back then it was accepted
and, despite the discomfort,
she put up with it, for him.
Even up until the end,
she allowed him to do it,
and when he first went away
she was greatly relieved.
Now, whenever she thinks of him,
she remembers the aroma
which always surrounded him.
When other people do it,
she can’t stand it at all,
but sometimes she is tempted
to light up a cigarette
and let his ghost share the smell.

To claim Aborigines have the world's oldest continuous culture is to misunderstand the meaning of culture, which continuously changes over time and location. For a culture not to change over time would be a reproach and certainly not a cause for celebration, for it would indicate that there had been no capacity to adapt. Clearly this has not been the case
