Double Rainbow

Swimming in the summer rain

Raindrops dimpling the Surf Club pool

We see a hazy double rainbow.

A father carrying his daughter

Is gently bobbing up and down—

Raindrops dimpling the Surf Club pool.

The Sunday crowds are thinning out,

Picnickers are getting damp

Despite a hazy double rainbow.

The band is packing up to go,

But we’re already wet right through

Swimming in the summer rain.

Christmas carols peter out.

The father’s smiling at his child

Rainbow, he tells her. Double rainbow.

Wedding Cake Island is embraced

By bands of light at either end.

Swimming in the summer rain

We see a vivid double rainbow.

For a culture not to change over time would be a reproach and certainly not a cause for celebration, for it would indicate that there had been no capacity to adapt. Clearly this has not been the case
