Being green. It got me into so much trouble.

No, I’m not part of the Greens political party. If that’s what I meant, I would have written Green with a capital G. And I’m not some climate-crisis environmentalist panic-monger either. What do they call themselves—extinction rebellion or something? Nah, that’s not the green that got me into trouble. And I wasn’t envying anyone at the time, either. Nope, wasn’t green with envy, that’s not what I mean.

I mean being green. Literally.

Well okay, not as literal as if my skin had turned green. I was wearing green. A soft green jacket over a green T-shirt, green tracksuit pants, green socks, and my fav running shoes. Which were also—you guessed it—green.

It all started with the shoes. They were a gift from my uncle, who lives in England. What did he bring me when he visited Australia? A mug with the picture of the Queen? A T-shirt with a picture of the Tower of London? Nope. He brought me a pair of running shoes. Green…
