Deeply UNpalatable

UN logoOne doesn’t like to be down in the mouth, but there seems precious little to inspire a smile just at the moment. Here in Australia we have a government still reeling from its close call at the last election and seemingly incapable of tapping the conservative principles to which it is nominally pledged. Doubt that? Just tune to the ABC and note that it remains a bastion of luvviedom, with no effort whatsoever having been made to see that the national broadcaster conforms to its charter.

In the US, voters will soon decide if what once was known as the Free World is to be led by a woman who has failed at every endeavour — from reforming US health care to foreign policy — or a protectionist better suited to a reality TV show than the Oval Office.

And at the UN things are no better (and likely to get worse) with the ascent to the top job of Portugal’s socialist ex-PM Antonio Guterres, as The Australian‘s Jennifer Oriel explains to 2GB’s Alan Jones via the audio link below.

  • Fired up in Merri-Bek

How could it not be the Jews? That was the immediate surmise of, let us be frank, noxiously aggressive bigots and anti-Semites. Tayah’s restaurant was in Caulfield, the heart of Jewish Melbourne, there was a synagogue nearby.
