Green Passage
The Patch General Store
A mighty arboreal surge across the road
Of masterful trees, far surpassing in their height
Our small humanity, suddenly uplifts my heart,
As we sit at The Patch café and wait for lunch.
The whole world is framed by their majestic rush
Of foliage that seems to brush the sky’s sea.
I notice then the stretch of mown lawn
Bending away into the garden’s hidden deeps.
I’d like to tread its soft embrace and find
In my green passage otherwhere, a different
And elusive garden taking me away from here.
Unseen yet seeable from a side glance, it waits.

To claim Aborigines have the world's oldest continuous culture is to misunderstand the meaning of culture, which continuously changes over time and location. For a culture not to change over time would be a reproach and certainly not a cause for celebration, for it would indicate that there had been no capacity to adapt. Clearly this has not been the case
