Breaking the mould

Here’s a puzzler: If a black woman threatens an Asian man with a chisel and is subdued by a gentleman of indeterminate ethnic appearance, which one is the real victim of racist white society?

It’s such a conundrum the SMH gave up and reported the incident with an (almost) straight bat, as per the story available via the link below. Tactfully omitted was the woman’s Indigenous lineage.

No doubt, once Race Commissioner Tim Soutphommasane has convened an emergency meeting of staffers, advisers and academic consultants, the official and authorised narrative of oppression, exclusion and otherness will emerge. Then the media will know how it should think and the rest of us should think too.

If only the Chinese man had been wearing a hijab!
