 The inner shape of a feeling   “A lot of time well spent with Dr Weiss,” Franz Kafka confided to his diary in 1914. Later in the year, dealings successfully concluded at the “tribunal” in the Askanische Hof hotel in Berlin that terminated his first engagement to his fiancée, the long-suffering Felice Bauer, he and Dr Weiss holidayed at the Danish resort of Marielyst. A photograph shows them grinning as they squat in the sand in front of a large bathing establishment.
