It’s in the Fairfax Press and concerns climate change, so you can’t sure it’s true or even remotely true, but it may well be that Pope Francis,now visiting the Philippines, has strayed into territory where men of the cloth simply should not go. If this report is to be believed, the Pontiff has found mankind guilty of ruining the planet’s climate, the proof being the latest typhoon to roll through that part of the world.

What’s next, the College of Cardinals to be expanded by the inclusion of prelates Flannery, Karoly, Brown, Milne and Gillard?

Or perhaps, before Pope Francis scores more accolades from Fairfax warmists, he might care to consult the work of his fellow Jesuit, the late Father Miguel Selga, who spent his career in the Philippines and devoted much effort to compiling a record of every big blow to hit the islands between 1566 and 1900.

It won’t be reported by Fairfax, which regards climate candour as a mortal sin, but that ledger of severe storms is a very long record indeed.
