Norm Neill: ‘oxymoronic’

oxymoronic

Call out the dogs of war—
unnerve the enemy.
Seek allies, buy more guns
and bombs and submarines.
Forget the cost—we know
the foe who threatens us.

You know the one, the man
who poisons subjects’ minds,
and buys our wheat and wool
and coal and iron ore,
and sells us cars, computers,
hats, and sends us guests
to spend their money here.
We must prepare to serve.

Recall Gallipoli—
defeat transmogrified
to moral victory—
our nation’s validation.

Bless our glorious dead.
