Wendy Willemse: ‘The Thankless Task of Saving the World’

The Thankless Task of Saving the World

I am anti Woke
I refuse to be PC
The hash-tag for MeToo
Has no effect on me.

I am not for hoisting banners
Nor for sloganeering
The louder that you shout
The less I will be hearing.

I know that Black Lives Matter
About the same as White
If you are on The Left
I must be on The Right.

You implore me to vote Yes
In the referendum for the Voice
You will label me a racist
If No should be my choice.

Kids who express doubts
Have genders reassigned
If I think that’s bat-shit crazy
I will be maligned.

You take pride in your Greenness
You are a legend in your eyes
You cherry-pick your truths
And disseminate white lies.

You sit po-faced at your keyboard
Crafting missives rich in bile
You always miss the High Road
By a country mile.

You pretend to love the haters
Because hate ever yields to love
But in truth they make you murderous
When push proceeds to shove.

It’s not their gross ignorance
The fact they’re blowing smoke
It’s not their wretched stubbornness
Their contempt for all things Woke.

The reason why they falter
The reason why they fail
Is their attitude toward you
Which goes beyond the pale.

In the presence of your greatness
They should bow and genuflect
Recognise your awesomeness
And treat you with respect.

They say you champion causes
For your ego and self-worth
They say it’s why you save the whales
Why you save the Earth.

You dedicate your life
With no thanks and no reward
While effing doubting Thomases
Are branding you a fraud.

There is nothing grandiose
From your point of view
If you remind yourself that Jesus
Was persecuted too.

Your twisty twirly legacy
Is not a blessing but a curse
In your quest to make things better
You only made them worse.

It’s time to stop the crazy
I assure you we’ll be fine
So shove your cancel culture
Where the sun don’t shine!
