James Thomson: ‘Impeached’

Impeached

it was a case of high crimes and misdemeanors
a conspiracy fermented in a dreaming brain
a set-up from the start
kind of evolutionary
certainly revolutionary
to my virgin tongue
it was, it was something quite exquisitorially
one of the best things I’d ever done
… next to doing it again
climbing those neighborhood fences
invading that sovereign orchard
stealing that first peach
tasting that sweet syrup for the first time
makes me guilty as charged
unfit for high office
a thief in the night
