Hazel Hall: ‘Squeezed’

Squeezed

a room’s available it has your name tucked in the wing for disabilities
they know that you avoid the metal frame that might betray an insecurity
your children took the running all your things were spread out
what to take and what to not some items claimed by family
some to bring a stash on ebay some for the op shop
there’s not much time to view your scraps of life
proudly displayed in their new owners’ places
paintings, chairs an antique carving knife
photographs displaying happy faces
they’re stored in your recall
this must suffice you’re
being squeezed
into decreasing
spaces
