After the Party After the party, when all are gone Like clucking hens to their nest; I pour one last welcome glass, To put the evening to rest. The house still echoes with the clatter Of all the importunities of noise The door, glad to empty the place, —did so with eagerness and poise. Wine in hand, I visit to reassure, Rooms disturbed by disturbed souls. Lowering windows’ blinds, like heavy eyes, Such evenings take their toll.
