Time to Rethink Superannuation

­­­If there was a public policy that was inequitable, expensive, illiberal and yet also ineffective, we imagine it would be controversial. Unions would protest against subsidies to the rich, the literati would rail against middle-class welfare, and free marketers would criticise the growing nanny state. We have such a policy, but far from being controversial, it is actually quite popular.
