Adrift on the Dordogne

Oars pull through water with purpose            but soon it’s simpler to lean back lift our faces to the sun    and     drift.            London friends with alabaster faces savour exposure that ripens skin. Dragonfly wings flash iridescent jade             on flowers clustered like clouds which have abandoned the sky             to float      as indolent as us. Poplars the colour of eucalypts lean over their reflections,             fish splash at touchdown, birds of prey stare from air drift eyries,             basso profundo frogs laugh at silent jokes.
