The release on Blu-ray of the director’s cut of the epic Gods and Generals is another stage in writer-director Ronald F. Maxwell’s nearly twenty-five-year commitment to bringing to the screen his vision of the American Civil War. It began in 1974 with the publication of Michael Shaara’s book The Killer Angels.
