Burka Blues  SIR: Peter Smith’s conclusion in his appropriately titled article “Struggling with the Burka” (March 2011), that banning the burka in the public domain is illiberal and should not be supported by those believing in a free society, is arrived at from the comfortable perspective of a male, one moreover who has never had to live as a citizen of an Islamic country. “Struggle” is a good description of what women encased in this tent-like garment have to physically endure.
