Misleading. Always.

jew killer headlineNow that Fairfax journalists have ended their three-day strike, a small executive cadre no longer has to shoulder the entire burden of being hopelessly wrong, entirely misleading and grossly inaccurate without the support of a full-staffed newsroom. Witness the shamefully misleading homepage headline reproduced atop this post — a headline that can only give the impression it was a wicked Jew who rampaged through a Melbourne mosque, leaving one person dead and three others injured.

The truth, as readers learn by sticking with the account of Erol Elmas’  sentencing until very near the bottom, is that the killer is himself both a Muslim and afflicted with a paranoid hatred of Jews.

Halfway decent journalists would have made that clear, and no editor worth the title should have allowed such a homepage teaser to run. That explains why The Age published it as is.

The account of the mosque murder and assaults can be read in full via the link below.
