Will Fraser: ‘Rear Vision’ and ‘Voice’
Rear Vision
Navigating
the highways
roundabouts and
cul-de-sacs of
memory
in order to
retrace the route back to
you
to
us
and
that season of sunbeams and rainbows when
we
in our blissful rapture
imagined that
our affair of the heart
would,
like the open road,
go on forever
Will Fraser
Voice
And
at length
he
had lost
her
just by being himself
when she had responded by
taking up with someone new
to become
first person
us
the personal circumstances
in retrospect
striking him
a traditionalist as
highly irregular, albeit
grammatically correct.

To claim Aborigines have the world's oldest continuous culture is to misunderstand the meaning of culture, which continuously changes over time and location. For a culture not to change over time would be a reproach and certainly not a cause for celebration, for it would indicate that there had been no capacity to adapt. Clearly this has not been the case
