(After the George Lambert painting)

Sometimes the world offers up
The beautiful, unexpectedly:

Dark gullies like eroded graves,
Shivering in a silent breeze
Rising solemnly from the cove,
A day-moon like shrapnel—
The wildflowers of Gallipoli.
