Short Wave

The voices of our three granddaughters

far off down the creek blurred and jumbled

laughter swallowed by wind

fragments squawking a shortwave radio

now in tune now out

I can almost make out words in static

then the dial moves and crow song and bird whistle

retune frequencies to the breeze.
