Wise men talk because they have something to say.
Fols, because they have to say something.
—Plato
Low men, high men
Living days gone by men
Wearing old school tie men
Talking, talking, talking.
Big men, little men
Young and rather brittle men
Old and full of spittle men
Talking, talking, talking.
Short men, tall men
Filling up the hall men
Listening not at all men
Talking, talking, talking.
Fat men, thin men
Bald and withered skin men
Playing hard to win men
Talking, talking, talking.
Shy men, bold men
Easy bought and sold men
Watches made of gold men
Talking, talking, talking.
Coarse men, fine men
Wearing Calvin Klein men
Beer and vintage wine men
Talking, talking, talking.
Yes men, no men
Always on the go men
Boasting who they know men
Talking, talking, talking.
Dull men, witty men
Flannel-suited city men
Standing for committee men
Talking, talking, talking.
Nice men, crude men
Always being sued men
Dirty jokes and lewd men
Talking, talking, talking.
Tough men, straw men
Even dinosaur men
What a bloody bore men
Talking, talking, talking.
Wise men, sadder men
Weaky, leaky bladder men
Climbing corporate ladder men
Talking, talking, talking.
Do it men, block it men
Full of poppycock it men
Pissing in your pocket men
Talking, talking, talking.
Gentlemen, be seated!

Many will disagree, but World War III is too great a risk to run by involving ourselves in a distant border conflict

To claim Aborigines have the world's oldest continuous culture is to misunderstand the meaning of culture, which continuously changes over time and location. For a culture not to change over time would be a reproach and certainly not a cause for celebration, for it would indicate that there had been no capacity to adapt. Clearly this has not been the case

A friend and longtime supporter of Quadrant, Clive James sent us a poem in 2010, which we published in our December issue. Like the Taronga Park Aquarium he recalls in its 'mocked-up sandstone cave' it's not to be forgotten
