Anna Ratcliff: ‘Love burns brightly’

Love burns brightly

Will it burn like a match
Catching quickly
Burning brightly
But it suddenly burns out

Will it burn like a candle
Burning on the wick
With a gentle heat
Lasting over a long time

Will love burn like a fire cracker
Bursting into explosions
Of love
Only to quickly fade away

Will love burn like a bush fire
Jumping and burning
Across the country
Some get burnt, but some don’t

Will love burn like embers
Out in the night in a campfire
Burning slowly
But burning in the morning

Love is complicated
It can burn
Brightly, gently, exploding or slowly
But it always burns in your heart

Clearly this has not been the case
