David Povey: ‘Looking for Shark Lake (Haj Sjö)’

Looking for Shark Lake (Haj Sjö)
Alvhem Sweden November 2020

The ground turns to water,
Sinking to the limits of my boots, even further,
Before I turn away.
Haj Sjö not found.

Unless you use a lake, it disappears.
A single wild swan, hurrying to catch the delta above me,
Also searching for Shark Lake.

In Australia you wouldn’t swim in Shark Lake.
But these are Swedish sharks.
Pike were caught here.
Water resumes land, and
They were deer I saw.

Maps shows the shape,
Yet my explorations are not rewarded,
Shark Lake not found.
