Ida Lichter: ‘Lockdown Protests’

Lockdown Protests

The men in blue
grouped into jobs
to flatten, handcuff,
beat and kick
selected game among the mob

raw sights squeezed breath
from viewers shocked and shamed
and saddened for their culture
proud in name

and yet a troubled siren rang
reminding of a fearful past
when overseers lashed their quarry
dutifully, as chained outcasts
