Leaf-Curling Spider The eye’s blood spot, or else fire licks above the maple’s bed of embers. A leaf posed in a frozen mid-air trick fakes zero gravity. It’s done with wires. The leaf curls in around the focal spider, origamist wormholeing through time and sapping panic, ever calm insider: here all future yesterdays must climb up silk reeled in to where no seconds pass, the branch forever stripped, the lawn aflame. The stopper in a fluted hourglass. The black zero cropped in a crimson frame. The spider in wait in its conic fold. The eye in wait behind translucent lid.…
