Tattoos I’ve come across include Man’s Ruin on a woman’s fingers, Cantando on a woman’s neck and on a young man’s arm, an arrowed heart the name below inked out. A man beside me in a Safeway queue had Death is Real on one arm and on the other Life is Not. Throughout the city I’ve seen foliage, barbed wire and foreign languages glide up and down on skin that’s visible. God knows what’s underneath. David Chandler
