Death by Silence SIR: The brilliant article by Shelley Gare, “Death by Silence in the Writers’ Combat Zone” (July-August 2010) evidences the need for a new Congress for Cultural Freedom in this century. The processes of subversion and corruption of education, organisations and freedom of expression, are as insidious as in the era of communist expansion. The fellow travellers have merely changed their spots but the agenda of control remains, the misuse of freedom to deny it to others.
