Madrid Zoo

An imitation countryside
In concrete holds the animals,
Piped music overlays their sounds
And dust the sleekness of their coats,

As lifelessly, on terraces
Like sideshow shelves, they stand and beg,
With big brown Bambi-target eyes,
To be the first to win the prize.
