The love that won’t let him speak

abc rainbow sign“If you remove the gender requirement,” asks the Australian Christian Lobby’s Lyle Shelton on Radio National, “why wouldn’t you then remove the numeric requirement if it is, as you say, about love?”

This was too much for interlocutor Fran Kelly, who immediately kicked in with the ‘just hang on a minute’ routine and the ever-reliable ‘that’s scaremongering!’

Think what you will of human affection in any and all of its many forms and follies, but Shelton has a point. Why not three-person marriages?

And when it comes to promoting a particular point of view so, as always, does the ABC, which illustrates the web page featuring the audio of Shelton’s attempt to get a word in edgewise with the photo above. That   ‘Love Is Love’ placard is front and centre.

If you’re allowed to run the national broadcaster as if it were your own private property, why not do a bit of not-so-subtle editorialising on the taxpayer dollar?  After all, it’s not as if the government of the day might ever find the backbone to insist that an organisation sucking up one billion tax dollars every year has an obligation to represent all points of view, fairly and without favour.
