Fairfax sure can pick ’em

fairfax chartSydney Morning Herald readers who miss Mike Carlton’s deep-sixed columns need not be alarmed that the Fairfax flagship has embraced genteel decorum. Carlton was bounced, according communiques from editor Darren Goodsir’s office, for abusing readers in the foulest terms, not for his anti-Israel rant of two weeks ago.

Well, if Goodsir ever gets around to reading his own paper he will notice Carlton Mark II is John Birmingham, who shares his predecessor’s salty tongue. Tim Blair has a few samples of the abusive and obscene output from the man who replaces the man who lost his job for abusive and obscene output.

Here’s an idea: The FXJ annual general meeting is coming up in November. If you’re unfortunate enough to hold Fairfax stock, why not turn up and, using the vocabulary of Birmingham and Carlton, ask Chairman Roger Corbett what the @#$% he thinks he’s doing with a media organisation that, once upon a time, was centre-left but sane.

Oh, and do make a point to wear one of those “@#$% Abbott” T-shirts his websites were promoting after last year’s election.
