The ABC forgets itself

susan carland apostasy

Reader FXJ had just finished Peter Smith’s latest column (at left) when he was moved to dash off a quick note of consolation and encouragement:

Be of stout heart, Peter, for things aren’t entirely as bad as you fear in regard to Islam’s unrestrained impact on Western society, thought and behaviour and, best of all, it is the ABC which encourages this sanguine view. Here I think of a report I saw over the weekend on the ABC website which detailed sympathetically the ordeal of Muslims in Australia who become ex-Muslims. The apostates spoke of the threats, the fears for their lives, the banishment from their ‘community’ when they abandoned the creed of the Prophet.

What cheered me, though, was that all this appeared under the ABC banner.

Clearly, whoever is in charge of promoting hijabs, making sure the requisite number of the bearded and veilled are featured in cameos of the Q&A audience and making fellow employees repeat the mantra ‘Abdel-Magied is a silly girl but we love her anyway’ has gone missing in action, perhaps even laid off as a consequence of those recent budget cuts.

Well here’s what lifts my spirits: if such a small reduction in the ABC’s budget allows this theme to be featured prominently, imagine how much better the national broadcaster will be if and when its funding is slashed by 60%.

I can hardly wait!

It’s a theory, FXJ, and thanks for sharing — although perhaps you should have read deeper into the article, for down the bottom there is a Brisbane imam who was asked to explain if Australian ex-Muslims are subject to the religion’s death penalties. The answer is ‘no’, apparently, but apostates in other countries aren’t so lucky (emphasis added):

“No-one should be calling to kill an apostate in lands where Islamic law is not applied.”

Breathe easy, ex-Muslims, at least for now. You are relatively safe in Australia, where the Susan Carland version of the creed (above), as explained during a taxpayer-funded visit to Malaysia,  yet prevails.

Readers curious to see what, had it been published elsewhere, would have been derided under normal circumstances by the ABC as “Islamophobic” can follow this link or the one below.
