A Sydney strain?

A mystified Peter O’Brien wonders:

I don’t know the total of people admitted to hospital in NSW as part of this Delta outbreak (roughly 3200 cases), but as at July 25, in NSW we have 141 people in hospital of which 43 are in ICU. That seems an extraordinarily high number if judged by the figures in other states.

Queensland has 25 in hospital but only one  in ICU.  There are seven patients in Victorian hospitals, with two in ICU.

So, is the Delta strain more troublesome in NSW than across state borders to the north and south?
