Daniel Pipes: The Middle East in Upheaval: Interpreting and Predicting
After 40 years of stasis, four tyrants were overturned and more could soon follow, civil war and anarchy have spread. In a tour d’horizon, Daniel Pipes offers background to these developments, analyzes their significance, and makes predictions. In brief: the Islamist surge is falling apart – note recent developments in Turkey, Iran, and Egypt as well as the fighting in Syria. He looks at these countries, plus the Arab-Israeli conflict and the Obama administration’s policy.
Dr Daniel Pipes is president of the Middle East Forum in Philadelphia and Taube distinguished visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution of Stanford University. His website, DanielPipes.org is one of the Internet’s most accessed sources of specialized information on the Middle East and Islam. The Boston Globe states that “If Pipes’s admonitions had been heeded, there might never have been a 9/11″. TheWashington Post calls him “perhaps the most prominent U.S. scholar on radical Islam.”
