“… the ‘naïve artiste’ in me…” Melinda Smith

The ‘naïve artiste’ writes poems
like the blackbird sings
for joy to be shared
with whomever hears.

Yet the Duckarsed Lyrebird
guards the nest with networks
groupthinking strategy
writing policy and law
                                   hopelessly seeking joy.

The ‘naïve artiste’ writes
a flowing script
in longhand
clear as a bell
with words scrubbed out
as the tune finds itself.
