I thought of Charles as a contemporary though he was sixteen years my senior. He was young in the ways he thought and behaved, good looking for his age, and immensely charming. When he was younger he had been mistaken more than once for the actor Dana Andrews (Laura, Fallen Angel, Where the Sidewalk Ends).
