Thank God I’m an Atheist? SIR: I was interested to read the various opinions in Robert McLaughlin’s review of 50 Voices of Disbelief: Why We Are Atheists (September 2010), but being a believer myself, I was not interested enough to purchase the book. One view that particularly caught my attention was that of the philosopher Adèle Mercier, who apparently considers that most people who believe in God do not really believe, but only believe that they believe.
