Many people find the idea of religious freedom confusing and even worrying. As Cardinal George Pell highlighted in Quadrant recently (January-February 2010), this includes the Australian Human Rights Commission, which has spent two years now puzzling over whether religious freedom is even “compatible” with human rights to begin with.
